About the Spartan Youth Football Organization

The Spartans, formerly known as the Crescent Springs Knights, was
founded in 1962 by Roger Nolting and Tom "Red" Richardson. In 1967,
the team joined the Northern Kentucky Youth Football League and
changed their name to the Fort Mitchell Spartans in 1968. In 1968, "Red"
teamed up with Al Meyer and together they ran the program until 1980
when Al retired. "Red" continued to coach the Spartans until the time
of his death in 1983.

Until 1974, the Spartans fielded only a Senior division team. At that
time, a Midget division was added and the following year, a Junior
division was added. It wasn't until 1973 that the Cheerleading Squad
was added. In 1982, the Starter division was added, completing the
organization as it is known today. In 1989, the Spartans incorporated
and the name was changed to Spartan Athletic and Youth Program, Inc.

Loyalty, endurance, and determination were the hallmarks of the early
Spartans. These same basic virtues, along with sportsmanship are the
cornerstones of the Spartan program. Between 1972 & 2005, the Spartans
have captured 26 Super Bowl Championships.

The Spartan program has continued to prepare young athletes to make
significant contributions to successful high school programs. The most
recent include countless former Spartans who participated as members
of Beechwood & Covington Catholic State Championship teams.  In
addition to successful high school programs, many Spartans have gone on
to play at the College and even Pro levels.

There are many years of experience and dedication to the Youth
program among the past and present coaching staff including Bob
Bacigalupo, Wayne Slusher, John Cruse, Al Meyer, Bob Odom, Darell
Newton, Jay Leftin, Mike Rorer, Boone Jansen and Tim "PeeWee" Reese. They have all
donated a minimum of 10 years of service to this organization.

Other equally important aspects of the Spartans include the Cheerleaders
and the Booster parents. Many hours of hard work and dedication by
everyone is needed to be successful. Players, Coaches, Cheerleaders,
and Parents all contribute to the sustained success of
the Spartan Athletic and Youth program.
